About the CGBI
Computational & Genome Biology Initiative
The CGBI Initiative seeks to strengthen research and education in computational and genome-oriented biology at Oregon State University. It is one of six initiatives supported by the Provost's Initiative Fund, and functions through partnerships between several colleges, departments, centers and academic programs.
This initiative builds upon existing strength and recent investments to expand research capabilities of OSU scientists, develop and expand core facilities, and enhance graduate education. Specifically, the CGBI Initiative has four major goals:
- increase the concentration of computationally intensive, genome-centered faculty at OSU. Five new faculty were hired in Spring, 2006, in four departments.
- Revamp the Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB) Program curriculum. The Ph.D program curriculum is being expanded to create a focus on computational and genome-wide perspectives on biological systems.
- Provide funding for graduate research assistantships in the MCB graduate program.
- Expand and elevate recent efforts and investment by the Center for Genome Research and Biocomputing in computational and genome biology by further developing core functions and facilities that benefit the OSU research community.
